Onitsha-based New School Highlife Artist, Eastern Vybz, is set to drop his next super single, “Libe IFE,” on May 22nd after a series of successful releases.
The highlife artist took his craft to the buzzing Onitsha Main Market, where he sampled the unreleased track in a Vox Pop-style promotional campaign. Eastern Vybz belongs to a class of new artists who are building their fan base in Eastern Nigeria, completely ignoring the major hubs of Lagos and Abuja.
So far, this has worked for the musicians as breakout stars like Jeriq, Evado, Aguero Banks, HighstarLavista, Staghee, 2pac Ishakeh, Kolaboy, Ugoccie, and a host of others. These artists are beginning to bag global endorsement deals, as witnessed when Jeriq signed a major Pepsi Ambassadorship deal.
The coming of age of these artists aligns with a major shift in the entertainment scene of eastern Nigeria. Last Yuletide was a beehive of concerts featuring some of the biggest acts in the Nigerian music scene.
Artists like Davido, OdumoduBlvck, Phyno, Flavour, and Ruger held concerts across the cities of Enugu, Owerri, and Awka, the three most viable entertainment ecosystems in the region.
Eastern Vybz is approaching highlife music with a new twist, making it appealing to the young generation of Easterners and fans of highlife music worldwide.
