The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, funded the Dominican Sisters’ college, Abatete, with N25 million for the construction of a boys’ hostel while attending the foundation laying ceremony of the project.
Obi handed the N25 million cheque to the school’s management in Abatete yesterday, citing the importance of education to any society.
He also disclosed that he has long been involved with the school’s development from his time as Anambra governor, when he built the school’s girls’ hostel from scratch, ensuring that female students in the school had a place to live and study.
The former Anambra governor reiterated that Education remains the most foundational means of elevating a society and pulling millions of people out of poverty. According to him, education is the most productive investment any nation can make, and it remains the bedrock for peace and development.
Obi said national leaders must continue to support health and educational institutions if a nation is to build a strong and sustainable nation for its future leaders.

In 2025, Obi donated over N165 million to schools in Anambra State. Key contributions include N50 million to Christ the King College, Onitsha, for infrastructure upgrades, N10 million to St. John Vianney Science College, and N5 million to a nursing facility in Ogbaru.
Obi also redirected a N120 million birthday gift to build classrooms in Agulu, Ekwulobia, and Abatete. His school donations emphasize his strong stance on education’s role in national development.
His school donations, in general, aim to enhance learning environments and support underfunded institutions, inspiring others to invest in education.
