New-generation commercial bank Nova Bank has made moves to establish a regional headquarters in Owerri, the eastern region.
The Managing Director of the bank, Chinwe Iloghalu, announced the development during the commissioning of a branch in Owerri in the presence of the state governor, Hope Uzodimma, confirming that the bank has already purchased land for the project.
We have purchased lands to erect our regional Office HQ for the SE/SS region in Owerri, Imo state,” says Nova Bank MD today during the commissioning of their Owerri branch office.
The development follows the ribbon-cutting service and flag-off of the Access Bank regional headquarters in Owerri, signalling a growing corporate presence in the heartland city.
Responding to the development, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma assured the bank of full cooperation and assistance in selecting a suitable location for the regional headquarters.
“We ask for your National HQ building in Owerri, Imo, we will support with a choice property allocation in that regard and any other assistance you (Nova Bank) need to make it happen, says Sen Hope Uzodimma at the event.
Nova Bank, formerly known as Nova Merchant Bank, is the brainchild of Philipps Oduoza, the former CEO of UBA. The bank transitioned to a national commercial bank in 2024 after many years in service and now focuses on wholesale banking, investment banking, and advisory services.
The bank is owned by a consortium of distinguished local and foreign investors and represents the democratisation of the Nigerian banking sector.
The Owerri metropolitan area is positioned to be a hub for corporate entities and world-class hospitality. This adds to the blossoming oil and gas sector, powered by seven major energy companies operating in the state.
The Owerri Metropolitan area is also a beneficiary of the “Light Up Imo ” project, powered by the state-owned Orashi Electricity Project, complemented by the existing Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.
The initiatives and projects of the Uzodimma administration seek to position Owerri as an urban city and a centre of opportunities.
