Governor Hope Uzodimma has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State to put the party’s interest above personal ambition as preparations continue for future elections.
The governor made the call during the Imo State APC Stakeholders Meeting, where he spoke on the outcome of the party’s primary elections and the need for unity among members.
Uzodimma said every political contest produces winners and losers, but urged party members to accept the results of democratic processes in the interest of the party’s progress and stability.
He told stakeholders that loyalty to the APC and commitment to its ideals should remain priorities, adding that politics should focus on service to the people, sacrifice, and societal development rather than personal gain.
The governor also appealed to members to remain united and work together as the party builds on what he described as its achievements at both the state and federal levels.
He further called for increased voter registration across all parts of Imo State, saying wider participation in the electoral process would strengthen the party’s chances in future elections.
Uzodinma said the APC must continue to consolidate its support base and prepare adequately for upcoming electoral contests through unity, discipline, and active voter mobilization.
Imo State was the first state in the Southeast to join the APC in 2019. The move followed a controversial court ruling, which moved Uzodimma from the fourth position to the first, demoting PDP’s Emeka Ihedioha.
The move at the time was highly controversial and sparked protests in Imo State. Uzodimma in 2023 won a landslide reelection, beating his opponents by a wide margin. The Orlu-born politician is now set for the Senate seat after winning the APC seat for the Imo west zone, beating Rochas Okorocha to the ticket.
Uzodimma was once primed for the Vice Presidential Ticket under the APC by 2031. His senatorial ambition, however, seems like an afterthought, as he appears preoccupied with it for now.
