Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after emerging as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress following the party’s nationwide primary election.
Nwifuru made this known in a post shared on his X page after attending the national collation of results held at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Center in Abuja.
The Ebonyi governor said he joined other governors and returning officers from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory during the collation exercise, which former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim led.
While presenting the results from Ebonyi State, Nwifuru announced that Tinubu secured 207,579 votes. Stanley Osifo, the other aspirant, recorded no votes.
At the end of the nationwide collation, Tinubu polled 10,999,162 votes to emerge as the APC presidential candidate. Osifo received 16,503 votes across the country.
Nwifuru described the outcome as a reflection of the trust, unity, and support. He believes Nigerians have continued to show support for Tinubu and the ruling party.
The governor also stated that members of the APC remain committed to the country’s progress, stability, and development. This is to be the case following the conclusion of the primary election.
Tinubu recorded emphatic wins in Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, and Enugu. This is four states out of the five Southeast states in the country. Tinubu’s overwhelming win underscores the growing strength of the APC in the region where he is perceived as unpopular.
The APC now has three out of the five Southeast states, with Anambra state increasingly looking like the fourth. Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo paid a visit to the APC national chairman, sparking rumors of a defection.
Tinubu clinching the APC Presidential Ticket comes days after his rival, Mr. Peter Obi, clinched the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Ticket unopposed.
Political analysts believe this is a strategic failure for the Tinubu Camp. They allegedly worked hard to ensure Obi would not have a platform to run on in 2027.
