The gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party, George Moghalu, stormed Orumba South with his campaign team, visiting Umunze, Nawfija, and neighboring villages in the Zone.
The Labour Party flagbearer received a rousing welcome from residents of the villages, who promised to return the gesture at the ballot box come November 8th. Moghalu’s campaign effort, themed “The Recovery Agenda,” adopted the strategy of visiting rural Anambra to gain a firsthand understanding of the people’s pulse and connect with rural dwellers in the state.
Speaking at the campaign Outreach, Moghalu said that the November 8th gubernatorial elections would play a decisive role in the outcome of the 2027 presidential elections.
“If we truly desire an Igbo presidency, Anambra must make a bold statement. Our leader, His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, needs his own state to stand firm in 2027, and the whole country, especially Obi’s supporters, are watching Ndi Anambra.” Moghalu said, drawing parallels between the Anambra Elections and the presidential race. He urged residents of the community to show the nation that they are serious about Peter Obi.
Additionally, he faulted Governor Soludo for constantly attacking Peter Obi instead of showing his scorecard.
“Soludo acts as if he were commissioned to bring down Obi, but whether he likes it or not, Obi has awakened the political consciousness of Ndi Igbo and brought us back to the national political table. Fortune can only be delayed but not denied; all powers belong to God, and He gives it to whom He pleases.” Moghalu added.
Insecurity and State-Backed Extortion
The Labour Party flagbearer harped on the rampant insecurity in the state and the activities of the state-backed outfits extorting revenue from Ndi anambra. He derided the Aka Odo revenue collectors and the Udo ga achi security outfit for extrajudicial practices, discomforting Ndi Anambra and draining money from their pockets.
“Our vigilantes must be trained, documented, equipped with technology, and properly funded. Why can’t Anambra have a control room system to monitor activities across the state? It is already working in Enugu, and it is possible here. Today, the Udogachi security outfit, who are expected to protect us, has instead become a source of fear because they are untrained and unregulated. He Said.
In the past week, the Moghalu campaign team has visited Adazi Nnukwu in Anaocha Local Government, Agulu in the same local government, and then Nawfija and Umunze in Orumba South. His campaign message remains embarking on a recovery journey, taking Anambra back to its glory days.
Labour Party’s Chances

The Labour Party is a relatively new and revamped party in Anambra’s political terrain, building its political capital from the massive support pulled by Anambra’s former governor, Peter Obi. The party is primarily composed of Peter Obi Supporters and former All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) party members who are no longer comfortable with the party.
The November 8th polls pit the party against its sister APGA support base under Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo. Other notable contenders in the election include the All Progressives Congress (APC), spearheaded by Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, banking on Federal might from the National ruling party.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), spearheaded by John Chuma Nwosu, banks on the new burst of energy fuelled by the national coalition of heavyweights at the centre. The coalition featuring Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mallam Nasir El Rufai, Mr Peter Obi, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, and Senator David Mark as National chairman is primed to unseat the ruling APC party at the centre come 2027.
George Moghalu of the Labour Party would be banking on his personal appeal, the Obideint family in Anambra State, and the massive support enjoyed by Labour Party candidates since Peter Obi joined the party.
