Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has rewarded players and management of Rangers International Football Club with plots of land and N150 million after they won the 2025/2026 Nigerian Premier League title.
The announcement was made during a dinner held for the team at the Government House in Enugu on Tuesday night.
The governor said the reward was to celebrate their success and encourage them to aim higher in future competitions.
Rangers won the league for the ninth time, matching their record, and achieved the feat again within three seasons under the current administration.
They secured the title after a 2-1 win over Ikorodu City Boys in Lagos on May 24, 2026.
Mbah said the players would receive N100 million, while the technical crew and management would get N50 million.
He also approved plots of land for each player, as well as additional allocations for key club officials.
He described the club as an important symbol in Enugu State. The club has a long history connected to unity and recovery after the Civil War.
He added that Rangers have produced many football greats over the years. He stated that it remains a source of pride for the state.
The governor praised the team for their discipline and effort throughout the season. He said their victory was the result of hard work and teamwork.
He also commended the club’s general manager, Amobi Ezeaku, for strong leadership and steady progress in the team’s development.
Mbah assured the team of continued government support and said sports would remain part of his development plans.
He also said work on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, known as The Cathedral, would be completed. This is to meet international standards ahead of continental matches.
He further stated that Enugu State would invest more in sports facilities. The state is also preparing to host the 2026 National Sports Festival. The state plans to make it a mammoth event that would leave a lasting impact.
He urged the team not to become relaxed after their victory. He told them to stay focused and push for success in continental competitions.
The state Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Lloyd Ekweremadu, was present. He thanked the governor for the celebration and his support for sports development.
He also pointed to the state’s strong performance in the National Para Games earlier in the year.
Club officials said the success was built on discipline, planning, and teamwork. He also expressed appreciation to the state government for its support during the season.
