The leader of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is set to know his fate today as the Federal High Court in Abuja looks to pass judgment, putting an end to a four-year-long legal process.
In his last court appearance, Justice James Omotosho ruled that Kanu can no longer complain of an absence of a fair trial, given his refusal to open a defence after a six-day window period. The Judge then went ahead to designate November 20 as the judgment day for the case.
As the courtroom prepares for the showdown, Kanu’s legal team, headed by Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, is extending appreciation to all supporters of the movement ahead of the final day.
“Thank you, the Legal Team. Thank you, all the SEEN & UNSEEN hands that have labored in defense of freedom & justice since 19th June 2021. You gave your all. I commend this Judgment Day to Isaiah 56:1, where God commanded all to ‘maintain justice and do what is right’. AMEN,” Ejimakor shared on X.
At the time of the report, the court proceedings is yet to begin, and the atmosphere at the court is tense and palpable. Newsmen are on the ground to cover all the important stories from this controversial and sensitive episode.
Yesterday, support for Nnamdi Kanu surged as supporters circulated his old videos warning Nigerians of an alleged Fulani invasion of the ancestral lands of the indigenous people of the country.
Many individuals pointed out the accuracy of his predictions and how the Nigerian state could have leveraged on his information to prevent the ongoing crisis by Islamic extremists in the country today.
Nigerians await the outcome of the judgment as IPOB members organise rallies in Italy and the UK, demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who they see as a political prisoner held on trumped-up charges which has no constitutional backing.
