Publicity Meets Enforcement
The FRSC is Nigeria’s foremost road safety outfit tasked with enforcing road safety rules. ANSAA, on the other hand, oversees the outdoor advertising industry in Anambra State. Their purview includes billboards, rallies, medium- and small-scale signage, and vehicle and tricycle branding.
ANSAA receives N50 million from each gubernatorial candidate for outdoor campaigns every election season in Anambra state. Besides political patronage, the agency also partners with large and medium-sized businesses in Anambra for outdoor campaigns and billboard advertising.
The agency is government-owned. However, it operates under a partnership model, funding its operations through its cut of ad sales and partnerships.
The commercial city of Onitsha and the capital city of Awka are the agency’s two major cash cows. This is due to the high concentration of businesses in these areas.
