The immediate past deputy governor of Abia state, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu has formally joined the Labour Party, strengthening the hold of the party in Abia state politics.

His supporters, mainly in Abia North, joined Ude Oko Chukwu in his quest to join the Labor Party, adding to the member count of the ruling Labour Party in the state.

During the Official reception event held at Etitiama Primary School, Nkporo, Ohafia LGA, Dr Alex Otti, the executive governor of Abia state, assured all new entrants into the Labour Party of equal treatment.

“This is a party that does not discriminate. There is no difference between those who are joining today and some of us who joined in 2022.

“As soon as you are a member of the party, you have equal rights and opportunities. So, those of you who are joining today, you have been conferred with the same rights that I have.” Otti said during the reception event for the former deputy governor of Abia state.

Otti expressed delight that Oko Chukwu gave the Labour Party in the state a pass mark and not only rated the party but came to join it.

The executive governor seized the opportunity to announce an award to reconstruct the Abiriba-Nkporo road, thanking the Nkporo community for their support in 2023.

“To the Nkporo people, I want to thank you for your support. Clearly, we won here in 2023 because of your support, even before the entire community collapsed into the Labour Party,” Otti said.

“So, if there are things that are coming tomorrow, I’m sure that everybody will recognise that Nkporo is Labour Party and Labour Party is Nkporo.” He added

In his Response, Ude Oko Chukwu stated that he joined the Labour Party following Governor Otti’s commitment to turn around the state’s fortunes in various sectors simultaneously.

“PDP has closed shop effective from today.

“You have made an enormous difference. I decided to join you because I saw the spirit. Continue doing your work. Some of us, who are politicians, will do the political work for you.” Ude Oko Chukwu stated.

Besides Ude Oko Chukwu, other new entrants into the Labour Party include the PDP Chairman, Ohafia LGA, Chief Egesigh Eze Azu, former PDP State Woman leader, Christie Emenike, and former chairman of Arochukwu LGA, Princely Kingsley Ngunu, among others.

The event was highlighted by the presentation of the Labour Party flag to the former deputy governor, marking his official enrolment into the ruling party in the state.
