Former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Reagan Ufomba, has officially joined the Labour Party and dissolved his political structure, Change Abia Organisation, into the party.
Ufomba was formally received into the Labour Party on June 10, 2026, at Okpuala Ngwa in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area by Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.
Speaking at the event, Otti described the development as a major gain for the Labour Party and the state’s ongoing development efforts. He said the party operates on the principles of fairness, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all members, regardless of when they joined.
The governor praised Ufomba for his commitment to Abia State’s progress and noted that his decision to join the Labour Party reflected confidence in the current administration’s achievements. He said the government remains focused on delivering its promises to residents through ongoing reforms and Development projects.
Otti also assured residents that plans for the proposed Nsulu Airport were advancing steadily. He disclosed that road projects linking the airport to various parts of the state would soon be awarded, expressing confidence that Abians would begin using the facility soon.
The governor explained that his administration spent its first year tackling inherited challenges. These challenges include unpaid salaries, pensions, and other obligations, before moving on to major infrastructure and development projects. According to him, the government had to rebuild key sectors. It also had to establish a strong foundation before embarking on broader transformation programmes.
He welcomed Ufomba and his supporters into the Labour Party. Alex Otti assured them of equal rights and opportunities within the party.
In his remarks, Ufomba described his defection as an important step in his political career. He thanked Governor Otti, Labour Party leaders, and members for receiving him and his supporters.
Ufomba pledged to contribute to the growth of both the party and Abia State. He added that the Change Abia Organisation comprises 197 affiliate groups across the state. The organisation is committed to promoting good governance, accountability, and sustainable development.
Ufomba explained the motive behind his decision to join the Labour Party. He said he was influenced by what he described as the Otti administration’s visible achievements. He expressed his desire to align with a movement focused on improving people’s welfare.
Several party leaders and government officials who attended the event welcomed Ufomba into the Labour Party. They also praised the state government’s performance. They said the growing number of people joining the party through grassroots mobilisation reflected increasing public confidence in the administration.
The event attracted government officials, political stakeholders, traditional leaders, party members, and supporters from across Abia State.
