President-Generals of the 583 autonomous communities in Enugu State have endorsed Governor Peter Mbah for a second term ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The endorsement was made during a consultative meeting held at the Government House in Enugu on Thursday, where the community leaders passed a motion in support of the governor’s re-election bid.
The President-Generals, who represented the 583 autonomous communities across the state, backed Mbah after reviewing his administration’s projects and policies since he assumed office.
The gathering attracted traditional community representatives and government officials who discussed development efforts in different parts of the state.
The leaders expressed satisfaction with ongoing projects and agreed to support the governor for another term in office.
Mbah’s Growing Political Fortune
Enugu’s Peter Mbah has had a good run this month in political terms. First, he was named the new chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, dethroning Senator Hope Uzodimma of Imo state.
This development came as a shock to political watchers and analysts who didn’t see this coming. Uzodimma has been a force in the APC national structure since 2019, and Mbah just joined the party last year. The displacement points to serious horse trading and high-level politics in the party’s inner circle ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mbah is also getting endorsed by the President-Generals of all the autonomous communities in Enugu state, which is a sign of grassroots consolidation, an important metric in state-level politics in Nigeria.
The Enugu governor is seriously in the mix of Southeast leaders lining up for the Vice Presidential slot under the party in 2031. Mbah is up against Uzodimma of Imo state, David Umahi of Ebonyi State, and Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra state.
The permutation reads that if Tinubu wins in 2027 under the APC. He will hand over to a Northener who will be expected to pick a Vice President from the eastern part of the country. This gives the Southeast a leeway into Asorock by the uppermost election cycle.
Peter Mbah and Hope Uzodimma remain the front-runners for this seat, with Umahi and Soludo still lagging in the scheme of things.
