Residents of Enugu State will be expected to participate in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2026, as the Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA) has announced movement restrictions during the exercise.
According to a public service announcement issued by the agency, the clean-up exercise will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. across the state.
The announcement was signed by Richard Onaga, Managing Director of ESWAMA, who urged residents to support efforts to maintain a cleaner environment across the state.
During the period, movement of people and vehicles will be restricted, except for individuals carrying out essential duties who can present valid identification or an official ESWAMA pass.
The agency stated that Environmental Court officials will be on duty throughout the exercise and warned that anyone who fails to comply with the sanitation order will face arrest and prosecution.
ESWAMA also directed that early-morning sporting activities, loading and offloading of passengers at motor parks, and other commercial activities should be suspended during the sanitation period.
The authority further reminded residents and business owners that payment of the 2026 sanitation rates is still ongoing.
It advised members of the public to make payments through commercial banks or at its office located at No. 7 Ridgeway Road, GRA, Enugu.
The waste management agency also provided a contact line for enquiries and encouraged residents to seek clarification where necessary regarding the exercise and sanitation rate payments.
Enugu was voted one of the cleanest cities in Nigeria by a federal agency following its tidy city centres and inner cities.
