Nigeria’s newest airline, Enugu Air, has announced the launch of flight operations to Kano starting from May 21, 2026.
The airline said passengers will now be able to fly to Kano from Enugu, Lagos, and Abuja as part of efforts to improve connectivity across the country.
According to the announcement, the new route is expected to make travel easier for business owners, traders, and other passengers moving between the cities and Kano, known as one of Nigeria’s major commercial centres.
The airline also stated that the new service will offer smoother journeys and better access for travellers heading to the northern part of the country. Passengers interested in booking flights were directed to the airline’s official website.
The development adds Kano to the growing list of destination routes for the state-owned airline. Previous destinations include Lagos, Abuja, Owerri, Benin, and now Kano state.
Enugu Air operates as a state-driven Public-Private Partnership (PPP). It acts as an economic catalyst to position Enugu State as a major regional aviation hub.
Instead of waiting for an independent Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC), a process that can take years, the airline adopts an asset-light, operational partnership model. It uses the existing AOC and operational structure of XEJet Airlines to run its flights.
The Enugu State Government owns the infrastructure and assets financially, funding fleet expansions directly through state budget allocations. The airline launched with three Embraer jets, with plans to scale to 20 aircraft.
Even though the State retains ownership, private sector management handles day-to-day operations, passenger logistics, and safety protocols. This structure mitigates civil service bureaucracy, ensuring commercial efficiency across its existing and prospective routes.
