Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has said that Enugu Air will begin international flights before the end of 2026.
He made this known in a post on his X page while speaking on the plans for the new airline, which has already received approval from the Federal Ministry of Aviation.
According to him, the airline will first begin regional flight operations from Enugu, helping to connect people within Nigeria more easily. He added that the aircraft are already ready for operations.
Mbah also explained that the international flights will open Enugu to other parts of the world and make travel more accessible for both residents and visitors. He said the project is part of the state’s wider plan to improve transport, attract investors, and grow tourism.
The government said it is also targeting over three million visitors to the state as part of its development goals.
The governor maintained that the aim is to position Enugu as a leading place for living, business, and investment, and to improve the state’s economy and create more opportunities for the people.
The launch of Enugu air adds to the overall revamp of the state’s transportation sector under the Mbah administration. The regime also launched five bus terminals in the major cities to cushion the state’s growing population and upgrade road transport in the state.
The Mbah administration is facing mild criticisms over what critics say is a slowdown in projects since his defection to the ruling All Progressives Party. Mbah defected from the Peoples Democratic Party last year, ending nearly 24 years of PDP stronghold in the state.
