The Deputy Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, Hon Benjamin Kalu, attended a World Trade Organization parliamentary conference, where he pushed for more focus on digital trade in shaping opportunities for youths and entrepreneurs

Kalu, in the 55th session of the steering committee, proposed two key initiatives to strengthen global digital trade governance. A Legislative Tracking Mechanism for digital legislations worldwide and a Model Digital Trade Legislative Toolkit for developing country parliaments.

The latter of the proposals aims to offer best-practice templates and policy options to help craft pro-development digital economy laws aligned with regional and global frameworks.

” The summary of what we have said here is that promoting multilateralism through digital trade is not a mere footnote. It’s a technical footnote.” Kalu argued

He added that the digital economy is no longer a distant promise but a daily reality for entrepreneurs and a rising opportunity for the youth.

Kalu pushed for the world to pursue a shared digital prosperity shaped by global players. He believes the world can collectively make digital trade a bridge of trust, opportunity, and inclusive growth.
