Anambra Guber: APGA Chides LP 2 million Votes Claim for Moghalu

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra state disputed the Labour Party’s claim to give its candidate, George Moghalu, over 2 million votes in the November 8 gubernatorial elections.

The ruling party reacted in response to the Labour Party rally last week at Onitsha led by Peter Obi and the Obidient family. LP at the rally promised to tap into the cult like followership of the obedient family to deliver 2 million votes for the party’s candidate.

Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, the coordinator of APGA Media Warriors, dismissed Labour Party’s claims, reminding Ndi Anambra that the party failed to deliver victory for its past two candidates, Oseloka Obaze in 2017 and Valentine Ozigbo in 2022.

“Anambra people are wiser and cannot be hoodwinked by Peter Obi into making a regrettable mistake on November 8 2025.”

“In 2017 , this same Peter Obi led Oseloka Obaze campaign against Fmr Governor Obiano and they lost shamefully.”

“He lost even in his Anaocha local government because in that election, APGA secured 21 over 21 victory for Fmr Governor Obiano,” he said.

Obigwe stressed that the claims by the Labour Party border on delusion as the party lost even after it fronted Valentine Ozigbo with Peter Obi as the main force behind the movement.

“Fast forward to 2021 that Prof Soludo contested his ongoing first in office election, this same Peter supported Valentine Ozigbo and campaigned for him in all the nooks and crannies of Anambra State, but they ended up losing the election woefully.”

“In that 2021 election, Peter Obi lost his Anaocha local government to Soludo that won the election in 19 local government areas of Anambra State.”

“Peter Obi cannot do any magic that will give George Moghalu victory on November 8,” he noted.

The media convener maintained that Governor Soludo delivered giant projects for the state and would easily secure the mandate come November 8.

    A Drawn out Race

The Anambra Guber election slated for November 8 is a tight race, giving the party dynamics at play. The Peter Obi movement used to be under the APGA party, uniting forces to compete against the People’s Democratic Party in the state. Those days are long gone as Peter Obi left the APGA Party in 2014, officially resigning as the party’s Leader and Chairman of its Board of Trustees on August 15, 2014.

In 2023, Peter Obi birthed an Obidient movement which enjoys cultlike followership in Anambra and across Nigeria. This divides APGA’s party base between its former Darling Peter Obi and incumbent Governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo.

Lurking in the shadows is the All Progressives Congress, the ruling party in Nigeria, hoping to take advantage of a divided historical support base. The APC is infamous for employing federal might at a state level to win elections, as seen in Edo State. The incumbent governor faces a two-pronged battle between the APC and the Labour Party.

    The Spoilers

The three major parties in the race must contend with smaller parties potentially dividing votes and carving away much-needed votes. Small Parties like the African Democratic Congress (ADC), spearheaded by John Chuma Nwosu and Ozo Jeff Nweke, leading the Action Alliance (AA), would tighten the race, making every vote count.

Subsequent parties started paying the N50 million campaign levy mandated by the State’s Advertorial body for the permit to use billboards, branded vehicles, and organizing public rallies. The Body mandated that all registered parties pay the dues, raising a potential N800 million for the agency.
