The Anambra state government has urged residents of the state to shun voter Apathy and come out to vote in today’s gubernatorial elections, as the Soludo administration is set to reverse Anambra’s historical voter apathy in important elections.

A press release signed by the state’s commissioner for information, Dr Law Mefor, urged citizens to end voter apathy and come out to participate fully in the November 8 gubernatorial elections.

” The Anambra Government calls on all eligible voters across the state to come out en masse and actively participate in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections scheduled for Saturday, 08 November 2025.” The press release read in parts.

The government argued that full voter participation is a fundamental expression of civic responsibility and a vital tenet of a democratic Society. In 2021, only 200,000 voters out of the 2.7 million registered voters showed up on the election day in one of the worst cases of voter apathy in the country.

Anambra State has recorded a perennial case of voter apathy in the past, a symptom of an overall loss of interest in governance and a strong apathy for politics.

Experts argued that the perceived marginalization of the Southeast region by the federal government plays a key role in fuelling voter apathy and anti-government sentiments in the region.

The Labour Party gubernatorial candidate, Dr George Moghalu, questioned the case of Voter Apathy in the state, urging Ndi anambra to reverse the trend in the 2025 gubernatorial elections.

Elections are currently ongoing in Anambra as the state goes to the polls to decide who will occupy the light house in Awka for the next four years. Collation of results will take place in the INEC headquarters in Awka after the casting of votes in the early hours of the day.

The incumbent governor of the state, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, remains the favourite to win the polls.
