The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC ) would commence the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Anambra State on July 8, 2025, ahead of the November 8 gubernatorial elections.
The development was announced by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Elizabeth Agwu, while addressing journalists in the capital city of Awka. She clarified that the CVR was strictly for the Anambra state Guber elections and not the Senatorial and House of Assembly by-elections slated for August 16, 2025.
The CVR exercise would commence on July 8, 2025, and would run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. local time, including Saturdays but excluding Mondays. The exercise will end on July 17, 2025.
“We urge eligible residents of Anambra to come out in large numbers to register or update their voter information,” Dr. Agwu said.
“Fresh registration must be done physically at designated INEC offices, while revalidation and corrections can be done online. Registration outside the stipulated hours will not be accepted,” she stated.
The Resident Commissioner clarified issues around registration by proxy or unscrupulous individuals charging people with fake Anambra INEC registration.
“INEC is not collecting money from anyone. Please, do not pay to be registered, and do not attempt to register on behalf of someone else,” she warned.
The 2025 Anambra State Governorship election, scheduled for November 8, will elect the successor to Governor Charles Soludo (APGA), who is eligible for re-election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the final candidate list, with 16 parties participating, including two with female candidates and six with female running mates.
Soludo begins his quest for reelection facing challenges caused by Internal party squabbles. The APGA man remains the favourite to clinch the seat come November, given historical antecedents.
