Dr Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor claimed the chairmanship of the Ebonyi chapter of the African Democratic Congress amidst an ongoing chairmanship tussle in the party.
Adibe-Nwafor, addressing journalists in Abakaliki on Friday, dismissed Pastor Kenneth Ozioma-Eze, a rival party member’s claim to the title, insisting that she is the authentic party chairman in the state. She stated that her rival, Ozioma-Eze, is not even a duly registered member of the ADC.
“I still remain Dr. Mrs Jenifer Adibe-Nwafor, the elected chairman of ADC in Ebonyi State. As for Pastor Ozioma-Eze, he is unknown to the party and has not registered as a member. The public should disregard the misinformation being circulated online,” she stated.
Explaining further, Adibe-Nwafor stated that the recent national leadership restructuring in Abuja did not in any way affect the party’s leadership in Ebonyi state. She added that the ADC national Chairman, David Mark, tasked all state executives to remain united and galvanize grassroots support for the party.
Adibe-Nwafor warned that Ozioma-Eze was employing fraudulent tactics to amass followership and deceive unsuspecting citizens of Ebonyi state.
Comrade Igube Ejiofor Umoke, the ADC state director of Media and Publicity, supported her claims, labelling Ozioma-Eze’s move as deceptive and misleading. He warned of serious legal actions if the group does not retract their claims and stop the alleged impersonation within 72 hours.
The ADC Ebonyi chapter reiterated that the party is open to new members, but applicants must come through the due and constitutional process. The party also advised the public to seek clarification from the party’s state secretariat in Abakaliki.
The ADC, led by Dr. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, is gaining traction as an opposition coalition platform. The party currently welcoming defectors from PDP, LP, and APC hopes to ride on the wave of the national coalition to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party in the state.
