Alex Otti has received the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Engr. Jennifer Adighije and her management team are on a courtesy visit to the Government House in Umuahia.
During the meeting, discussions focused on power generation and distribution in Abia State, with attention on the revival of the Alaoji Power Plant in Aba. The plant has resumed operations and currently supplies about 375 megawatts to the national grid. Plans are also in place to expand its output to nearly 800 megawatts, with projections of up to 1,100 megawatts.
Otti noted that his administration has continued to prioritize reforms in the electricity sector to support economic and social development across the state. These efforts include the ring-fencing of the Aba industrial cluster and ongoing arrangements toward acquiring the Umuahia electricity axis of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.
The collaboration with NDPHC is expected to enable direct power transmission from the Alaoji plant to the remaining eight local government areas outside the Aba corridor. The plan aims to improve electricity supply to homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses across Abia State.
The state government maintained that the ongoing power sector initiatives are part of its wider goal to strengthen infrastructure that supports production, economic growth, and improved living conditions, while positioning Abia for greater energy stability.
Alaoji Power Plant in Numbers
Alaoji Power Plant is a gas-fired plant near Aba in Abia State, Nigeria, developed under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC). It operates as a combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) facility in phases.
