The Abia State Government, through the office of the Honourable Commissioner of Education, has announced the date for the commencement of the Second Batch of the Abia State Teachers Recruitment Exercise.
In a signed memo, ABSG outlined the approved schedule of the exercise, detailing the various events slated for it.
Computer-Based Test (CBT) is slated for 17th March to 21st March 2026 and will be conducted in English, Maths, and their respective areas of specialisation. Successful candidates in the CBT tests will undergo an interview from 24th March to 28th March 2026.
Successful candidates are expected to bring their Original birth certificate or Age declaration, Original First School Leaving Certificate, Original WAEC/NECO certificate, and Original NCE/HND/Degree/Master’s and PhD certificate.
Other important documents to bring include the Original NYSC Discharge Certificate. Printout of the Online Application form, Printout of the CBT result, Timestamped BVN Printout, and NIN Card Printout.
ABSG under Alex Otti has been revamping its grassroots education, employing over 4,000 teachers during his first tenure. The teachers’ recruitment exercise aims to assess the state’s teacher capacity and quality. These factors directly impact the quality of education in the state.
Abia State performed poorly in the just-concluded Southeast Maths Olympiad competition, raising concerns from close watchers. The state had the lowest cumulative score among the five southeastern states. A poor picture of education in the state.
Hopefully, the Otti administration can turn this around by investing in the quality of teachers and administrators. This will be done with a special focus on government-owned schools.
