Abia State Governor, Alex, has unveiled plans to build an Entertainment City in Abia State that will serve as a major hub for filmmakers, creative workers, and investors in the entertainment industry.
The governor, Alex Otti, made this known after receiving a Nollywood delegation led by Francis Ifeakandu, who is currently working on a film project titled The Chronicles of Enyimba.
He said the planned entertainment city will support the growth of the creative sector and help attract investment and tourism into the state. According to him, Abia’s rich cultural heritage, especially that of Aba, known as Enyimba City, makes it suitable for such a project.
He added that processes such as land acquisition and compensation for the entertainment city project have already started.
Otti explained that although the government does not directly fund private film productions, his administration will continue to provide support and create a friendly environment for the entertainment industry to grow.
He also noted that he has experience in film production in the 1990s, which gives him a clear understanding of the challenges faced in Nollywood.
The governor praised the filmmakers for their effort in producing a six-season project featuring over 2,000 cast members. He said the project will help promote Abia State, create jobs, and improve the state’s visibility in Nigeria’s movie industry.
The chronicles of Enyimba is a film proposed by its creator to promote and tell the resilient story of the commercial city of Aba. Abia state has gained mainstream attention since Otti took over. The creative work hopes to leverage this newfound attention to help the state score creative and business points.
