Abia State Government pledged to continue the promotion of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the state while providing security and creating an overall enabling environment for the State’s economic development.
Michael Akpara, commissioner for Industry, Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), announced the development on Friday during the celebration of the 2025 World MSME Day. The event was organised by the African Association for Small and Medium Enterprises (AASME) at the Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba.
The Commissioner explained that the state is committed to boosting MSMEs in order to enable them to revitalize the local economy and the Nigerian economy by extension. The Commissioner, who was represented in the meeting by Okey Ihemanma, permanent secretary in the Ministry, added that the state government recognizes that true development cannot be achieved without stellar security and environmental responsibility.
He added that the state government, through the Ministry of Industry and SME, is working with entrepreneurs, communities, and investors to stimulate the growth of the local economy. Uche Eme-Uche, a professor and Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Abia State, expressed delight in being part of the 9th edition of World MSME Day. The commissioner thanked the organizing community for bringing the event to the Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba.

He was represented by Nwomiko Udo-Nwokocha, director of Administration, Ministry of Tertiary Education, who described Abia State as the MSME capital of the federation. The director noted that the state governor was maximizing this advantage by building road infrastructure, improving the accessibility of the commercial areas.
” He is also rebuilding the major markets of Ariaria and Ekeoha shopping complex to an international standard. Similarly, the Governor has spared nothing in the provision of security for residents of Abia State and Aba in particular. Said the Director.
“Within the first few months of his administration, he launched a security outfit code-named “Operation Crush”, which has done a good job keeping Abia largely safe and conducive for business”. He added.
The Alex Otti administration is noted primarily for its capital projects, including the completion of the Geometric power plant in Aba and a massive revamp of road infrastructure in the state. The administration was the sole child of the Labour Party, heavily influenced by former Anambra governor Peter Obi.
