The Ongoing Abia Leadership Academy in Umuahia graduated its second batch of trainees following the completion of their week-long program.
Speaking at the Graduation Ceremony, Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti revealed that his target with the program is to redirect the youth in Abia State to become better citizens, tasking them to continue learning outside the walls of the training camp.
“My charge to you will be to keep learning, share, and influence the behaviour of others based on leadership.
“Leadership is the ability to influence and drive outcomes. So, what we actually set out to do here, which we will continue to do, is to redirect our people.” Otti said, addressing the graduates.
Otti reiterated that the mission of the Leadership Academy in the state is to redirect the young people in Abia, turning them away from drugs and cultism, and shaping them to be great ambassadors of the state.
Additionally, Otti emphasized the importance of the Leadership Academy, which is part of his social reorientation program and is geared towards developing leaders in the state.
“Additionally, this is about raising a new generation of leaders, those who have transformed their minds to think broadly and deeply whenever and wherever they are confronted with any challenge at all.” Otti Said.
Finally, the governor said that each graduate of the program is expected to mentor at least one person every month for a duration of 12 months. A digital platform to facilitate that has been created.
The Chairman of the Abia Leadership Academy and the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu, added that the programme’s vision is to build leaders who can positively impact society.
Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Emmanuel Uma, Chibuzor Innocent, Prince Ceazer, among others, described the programme as a great way to prepare Abia state for the future.
They extended their gratitude to Governor Otti for initiating the program and prayed for God’s blessing on him.
The Third Batch of applicants for the Abia Leadership Academy is currently in the camp for the commencement of their 7-day participation in the leadership program.
