The Abia state-sponsored Abia Leadership Academy graduated its Pioneer class yesterday, marking the end of the innovative program for the first batch of applicants.
The Executive Governor of Abia State, Governor Alex Otti, graced the graduation ceremony on Wednesday and gave a keynote speech on the occasion of the event.
The new graduates went through a 7-day intensive Leadership training at Government College, Umuahia, coupled with a host of fun and educational activities. The program was designed for youths in the state aged 16 to 20 and is primed to inculcate them with leadership skills needed for a progressive society in the state.
Abia State’s Commissioner for Information, Prince Okechukwu Kanu, who also attended the graduation ceremony, described the atmosphere as electrifying and encouraging to the youths of the state.
He expressed the heightened spirits in which Abia State youths envisioned Governor Otti, calling it an apparent success of the initiative by the Alex Otti administration.
” For me, what stood out most was the love, uncoached, organic, and overwhelming, that these young leaders and dignitaries poured on Governor Otti. It was a clear sign that Abians see and feel the difference in leadership. A new era of hope and transformation is here, “Kanu Said.

The leadership program aims to train 1,000 youths aged 16–20 in leadership skills. The first cohort of 250 applicants graduated yesterday after starting a 7-day program on August 13 at Government College, Umuahia.
The program, fully funded by the state, encompasses core leadership training, Fun and educational activities, Feeding, and stipends for participants.
The Abia Leadership Academy is currently ongoing at the time of the report.
