The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has confirmed that there were no lives lost in the tragic fire that broke out in a brewery in the state recently.
The Governor revealed this yesterday, following his on-site visit to the fire scene and his conversation with key members of the affected firm.
“Earlier today, I visited the site of yesterday’s fire at a facility linked to Nigerian Breweries Plc in Aba. I am grateful to God that no lives were lost and that the damage was limited to empty crates without bottles,” Ottis said.
“I commend the intervention of the Abia State Fire Service, alongside other emergency agencies, whose coordinated efforts ensured the inferno was contained before it could escalate. Their response prevented what could have been a major disaster.” He added.
Speaking further, Otti described how he met with the Chief Engineer of Nigerian Breweries, Aba, Engr. Benjamin Okore, who briefed him on procedures and the efforts of the fire service in quenching the inferno.
“The incident is a reminder of the need for vigilance and preparedness against unforeseen emergencies. While we pray such events never happen again, we must always remain ready.” Otti said, concluding.
The structure affected in yesterday’s fire was a Nigerian Breweries factory, which is part of the national brewer’s assets in the state. The Nigerian Brewery has had a physical presence in Abia state for 70 years, contributing jobs and stimulating the local economy.
The incident highlighted the importance of an active fire service system in a state, as the inferno was quenched with no lives lost so far.
