Former Abia State Commissioner for Information and former Chief of Staff, Professor A.C.B. Agbazuere, has dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the Labor Party, the political camp of Alex Otti, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Agbazuere made this known during a solidarity visit to the governor at the governor’s office on Wednesday, alongside members of his Owie Structure.
The former PDP House of Representatives candidate for the Isialangwa North and South Federal Constituency said he decided to support Governor Otti because of the projects and changes underway across the state.
He said he could no longer remain in another political party while openly praising the governor’s performance from a distance.
Agbazuere said his support for the governor would now become active teamwork ahead of the next election.
He added that his political structure has more than 8,000 members and that many people within the group had encouraged him to align with the governor because of the visible development in the state.
He praised several projects carried out by the Otti administration, including road expansion in Umuahia, the reconstruction of Port Harcourt Road, the upgrade of Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard, and improvements around Okpara Square and other public facilities in the state capital.
According to him, the projects have changed the state’s appearance and improved mobility for residents. He also said the governor had shown commitment to governance within a short period in office.
Responding, Governor Otti welcomed Agbazuere and members of the Owie Structure into the Labor Party and thanked them for their support.
The governor said his administration would continue to deliver projects across the state and accelerate development. He stated that governance must produce results that people can see and feel.
Otti also directed the Chief of Staff to begin registering Agbazuere and his supporters in the Labor Party ahead of the party primaries.
The governor assured the new members that they would enjoy equal rights within the party, adding that the Labour Party does not discriminate between old and new members.
Top government officials present during the visit included the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Meribeole; the Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba; and the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu.
