Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has hailed the thorough and professional process of the Nigerian Democratic Congress after his screening and confirmation for the presidential ticket.
Obi completed his presidential screening exercise at the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Abuja.
According to a post on X, Obi said he was cleared after a detailed review of his academic qualifications, NYSC records, and age declaration.
The screening, which lasted over two and a half hours, was part of the party’s internal process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He also answered questions on his policy direction and vision for what he described as a “new Nigeria.”
At the end of the exercise, he was issued his presidential nomination form, which he had already paid for.
The screening was conducted by a committee led by former Ebonyi State governor and ex-Senate President, Sam Egwu, who oversaw the verification of aspirants’ documents and credentials.
Obi praised the committee for what he described as a thorough and professional process, and also commended the party leadership for maintaining internal democratic standards.
Peter Obi was formerly a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform but later defected to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). The former Anambra Governor finally settled for the NDC after moving from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Obi, upon leaving the ADC, explained that he is leaving the party due to excessive litigation and the personal burden he carries to rescue Nigeria and build a new country.
His running mate, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso, was the former governor of Kano state and would be tasked with selling Obi to Northern Nigeria. The ticket brings Eastern Nigeria and Northern Nigeria together on one platform. The political formula has worked before, giving Nigeria the Shehu Shagari and Alex Ekwueme candidacies.
