Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, urged the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC) to move beyond revenue allocation and also add monitoring of funds usage by the state and Federal agencies.
The Governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, made the comment during the visit of the RMFAC Federal Commissioner representing Abia, Mrs. Nkechi Oti. He drummed on the need to also monitor how allocated funds are being used by the receiving entities.
“The Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission is one that every Nigerian should be proud of—ensuring that the revenue that accrues to this nation is judiciously allocated. And also, you monitor the disbursement. I believe also, you should go ahead and monitor how those funds are used,” Otti Said.
We should come up with a framework that will enable people to monitor what is being given to them, whether state, federal, or whatever. Because it’s not just knowing the revenue allocated to them. At the end of the day, we should also be accountable. Accountability is one of the issues that will make us stand tall in the comity of states,” he stated. He added.
The Abia governor outlined the gains made by the Abia state government as far as fiscal responsibility is concerned. The gains include the rehabilitation of Port Harcourt Road, Aba, the clearing of salary arrears, and the upgrading of schools and hospitals.
