The Gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in Anambra state, George Moghalu, has condemned the campaign of calumny and crass display by the Anambra political class in the run-up to the gubernatorial polls in the state.
Speaking to Newsmen on Wednesday, the Labour Party flagbearer called for a return to issue-based campaigns and goal-oriented conversations instead of embarrassing exchanges of words ruining the image of the state.
The political discussion in Anambra State in the past weeks has been reduced to personal attacks and aspersions, with issues like certificates, personal hygiene, and marital infidelity taking centre stage.
“It’s quite embarrassing what we politicians engage in. We shouldn’t belittle ourselves by getting involved in mundane and personal issues and casting aspersions with foul language.
“I believe the campaign should be conducted in an orderly and civil manner. There are more contending issues in our polity to talk about. Talking about sex issues and certificates is lowering the bar. Mogahlu argued.
The Former Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority boss urged candidates to focus on their manifestos and discuss what they offer Ndi Anambra if elected into the highest office in the state.
He tasked candidates to hold the current administration accountable and offer solutions to shortcomings of the administration as part of their campaign efforts.
Speaking on Education, Moghalu pointed out the drop in the standard of education under the Soludo administration, as the state is now ranked at the bottom of the indices compared to its heights under Peter Obi.
He referred to the decline as scandalous, stating that topics should lead the political discussion in the state.
The Labour Party man believes health systems, infrastructure, erosion, and things that touch the lives of people should take the front burner going forward.
