The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State on Wednesday officially flagged off its campaign for the 2027 general elections at Nsukka Township Stadium. Party leaders pledged to mobilise voters across the state for the re-election of Governor Peter Mbah and President Bola Tinubu.
The event drew a large turnout of party faithful, political office holders, traditional and community leaders, and supporters from the three senatorial districts. Speakers described the crowd as proof of the party’s strength and said it intends to win with all its candidates.
Mbah Points to Projects
Governor Mbah highlighted his administration’s investments in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare and economic development, as well as the revival of moribund assets and the completion of abandoned projects. He urged residents to judge his government by its achievements and ongoing projects, and said the opposition had not even presented a manifesto.
Reflecting on his trip to Nsukka, he said the dualisation of the Penoks–T-Junction–Ugwogo-Opi–Nsukka road had cut travel time and improved safety. He said the contractor had assured him of a realistic commissioning date before the end of this year, and added that “empty Mondays” were now a thing of the past on the route.
He also cited the 40km Owo-Ubahu-Amankanu-Umualor-Ikem dual carriageway, which links to the Obollo-Afor road and connects communities in the north of the state while opening a new gateway to the North Central region.
Education, Health and the Economy
Mbah said the Smart Green Schools initiative aims to move learning from memorisation toward critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving. He said more than 6,000 additional teachers have been recruited and are being trained at the state’s Centre for Experiential Learning and Innovation.
In health, the government is building Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres in all 260 electoral wards, each with staff and accommodation. On the economy, he listed the reopening of the Presidential Hotel, the International Conference Centre, United Farm Products Limited, Songhai Enugu Integrated Farm and Sunrise Rice Flour Mill.
