The Abia State Government signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Blue Giraffe Development Limited to establish 20 smart schools in the state.
The state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Goodluck Ubochi, disclosed this during a brief event on Saturday, describing the development as a significant moment.
The smart school project by the state aims to promote digital learning while featuring interactive learning systems, computerised boards, high-speed internet access, and solar-powered electricity. According to the commissioner, the MOA will speed up the process for the consultant to embark on the project.

Seventeen smart schools would be built in the 17 local government areas of the state. The remaining schools will be established in the three Senatorial Districts of Abia North, Abia South, and Abia Central.
“We have classified the timeline into three. The first nine will be delivered between now and September or October.
“The second will come by the fourth quarter of the year, and the last by the first quarter of next year. “This is just the beginning because we don’t even mind making all the schools in Abia smart over time. Ubochi said.
The commissioner commended the Abia government on the project, describing him as God sent in the state. He explained that the Governor’s vision aligns with 21st-century world standards in Education, and he hopes to bring such a level of exposure and sophistication home to Abia State.
The Managing Director of Blue Giraffe, Mrs Orieji Okwara-Emele, thanked the Abia government for allowing them to carry out the project.
“We understand what the Governor wants, especially regarding Education, and promise this project will be done. “Abia education will change and will align with whatever people are doing in the world,” she said
