The Chairman of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts, Godwin Abiri, said the assembly is focused on enshrining public accountability in the state’s fiscal management.
Abirii disclosed this on Wednesday while extending the state’s budget tracking to include the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The House member representing the Izzi West constituency said the essence of legislative financial and fiscal budget tracking was to ensure accountability, transparency, and effective management of public resources.
He added that budget tracking was in line with the statutory mandate of the committee, and they are very much interested in enforcing it.
Abiri said that the aim was to monitor the activities of the ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure strict compliance with the 2025 budget provisions.
Laudable Achievements
The chairman of the committee seized the opportunity to commend the governor on various industrial strides his administration has made since its inception.
He commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for making the Ebonyi Pipe Production Industry Ezzamgbo functional, describing it as the most suitable for a fast-growing state like Ebonyi.
He also lauded the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Oguzor Offia-Nwali, for his achievements in the ministry.
In Response, Mr Offia-Nwali thanked the committee for the visit, highlighting that the Ebonyi pipe production industry has resumed production and is recording an influx of customers.
The commissioner added that the industrial city under construction, when completed, would be a training point for Ebonyi youths.
He expressed gratitude to the committee for the meeting and assured the cooperation of the ministry.
