The South East is moving to strengthen its energy infrastructure and speed up industrial growth. The South East Development Commission (SEDC), through the South East Investment Company (SEIC), is working with Gas Sync and NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML) on the South East Gas Distribution Pipeline Infrastructure Project, and the public is invited to its launch.
The proposed 400km network will link the ANOH Gas Processing Plant in Imo State to major industrial and commercial centres across the five South East states, supporting energy access, investment and regional economic growth.
Why the Project Matters
Regional leaders have pushed for this kind of infrastructure. Enugu Governor Peter Mbah recently urged the SEDC to prioritise a regional gas pipeline, a railway network and industrialisation, describing a high-pressure pipeline across major South East cities as a critical intervention that could give industries reliable access to gas.
The Partners and the Source
ANOH is built by a joint venture owned equally by Seplat Energy and the Nigerian Gas Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of NNPC, with a design capacity of 300 million standard cubic feet per day. It reached mechanical completion on 29 December 2023.
NNPC has also put money into the plant, with its gas infrastructure subsidiary providing an equity injection to Anoh Gas Processing Company in 2025.
On the distribution side, NGML is a wholly owned NNPC subsidiary that has marketed and distributed gas for 40 years and operates Nigeria’s largest pipeline network, at 516 km. It supplies piped gas to commercial and industrial users such as cement factories, manufacturers and power companies.
If delivered, the pipeline would bring that distribution experience to a region that has long lacked piped gas
