Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has said the completion of the International Conference Centre (ICC) project marks the fulfillment of a dream that remained unrealised for more than two decades.
In a post shared on his X page, the governor recalled that when he assumed office, he had promised to pursue purposeful development and deliver projects to improve the lives of the people of Enugu State.
Mbah noted that the ICC project, which was initiated in 2003, remained unfinished for over 20 years.
According to him, seeing the project completed in less than a year under his administration is both emotional and rewarding.
The governor said his government is determined to ensure that Enugu participates in the ongoing global transformation and development rather than watching from the sidelines.
He stated that his administration has chosen to be actively involved in driving progress and creating opportunities for the people, adding that intentional leadership is about turning long-standing hopes into reality.
Mbah said the completion of the conference centre reflects his government’s commitment to building a future that the people of Enugu can be proud of.
The ICC as a Prestigious State Asset
The International Conference Centre in Enugu has blossomed into an important facility for the state and a valuable resource for the state’s MICE strategy. The ICC is at the centre of the state’s tourism plans, hosting all the major events cited in the state.
The ICC hosted the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference (AGC) last year, pulling over 20,000 lawyers to the state. Other key events include the Enugu Tech Festival 2026, the Southeast Venture Capital Program Finals, and the just-concluded Creative Corner event for digital creators in the region.
According to Paul Onwuanibe, CEO of Landmark Africa, Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) is a smart way to develop a state or a country. Enugu is pursuing this strategy, and the ICC is at the centre of the state’s movement.
