The Enugu State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency (ENSSAA) has announced plans to begin a statewide operation to remove outdoor advertisements displayed without official approval.
The agency made this known on Thursday through a statement issued by its General Manager, Francis Aninwike.
According to the statement, the exercise will take place across Enugu metropolis and all local government areas of the state in line with the provisions of the ENSSAA Law 2016, which regulates outdoor advertising and signage.
The agency said individuals, businesses, organisations, political parties, and candidates must obtain approval before erecting billboards, displaying campaign materials, or pasting advertisements anywhere in the state.
ENSSAA urged political parties and other stakeholders to regularise their advertisements and secure the necessary permits before displaying campaign materials across Enugu State.
The agency explained that the growing number of unauthorised posters, billboards, and other outdoor advertisements violates existing laws and affects the appearance of public infrastructure and the environment.
Aninwike stated that the enforcement exercise is a routine regulatory activity aimed at ensuring compliance with advertising regulations and maintaining order in the outdoor advertising sector.
He noted that the operation is not directed at any individual, political party, or group.
To support the exercise, the agency said it has secured armed police escorts for enforcement teams. The operation is expected to run daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. statewide.
Residents were advised to obey the law and avoid interfering with officials carrying out their duties during the exercise.
The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that outdoor advertising activities in Enugu State comply with existing regulations and promote a cleaner, more organised environment.
