Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has expressed confidence that his recent meeting with the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) will continue to have a positive impact, especially on the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), research, and knowledge sharing in Nigeria’s education system.
He said the discussion focused on how AI can be used to improve teaching, learning, and technical skills in polytechnics nationwide. He added that the ideas shared during the engagement should help push long-term improvements in the sector.
Uzodimma also said he spoke about efforts made to settle disagreements between the union and the Federal Government. He noted that he addressed other key issues affecting polytechnics, including the need to protect the value of certificates issued by these institutions and improve confidence in their graduates.
Uzodimma explained that polytechnics and universities of technology are important in preparing young people for the new world. He said the World is now driven by science and technology. According to him, these institutions are key to helping Nigeria take part in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The governor said this goal cannot be achieved by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics alone. He called for teamwork between the government, lawmakers, and other stakeholders to improve polytechnics and support national development.
Uzodimma added that he remains committed to supporting efforts that will strengthen technical education. He also plans to help the country move towards industrial growth. Imo state governor is on a roll with his robust Technology advocacy campaign.
Delivering the guest note speech at the convocation ceremony of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri. Uzodimma urged universities and scholars to leverage AI to advance academia and research.
In his state of Imo, Uzodimma has initiated various digital initiatives. He also plans to upskill 20,000 imo youths to enable them to compete at a global scale. The Imo Digital City and other Digital initiatives by his administration remain highlights of his almost two-term as governor.
