How to check JAMB Result in 2026 is one of the most sought-after questions by undergraduates in Nigeria. The Joint Admission Matriculation Board is the body that organises the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) in Nigeria. It is an examination that every Nigerian student fresh out of secondary school who is seeking admission to a university must take to demonstrate eligibility.
The UTME exams in Nigeria have evolved over time. Back in the days, the Exam was a written exercise with school venues serving as Exam centers for the JAMB candidates. The process was a physical examination with questions distributed on paper and answer booklets. The UTME exams have moved beyond such formats and are now taken as a Computer-Based Test (CBT).
The introduction of computers to the UTME exams optimised the process for greater accuracy and plugged holes exploited by bad actors engaged in all forms of Exam Malpractice. It also made distribution, record-keeping, and script marking very easy and automated.
Before CBT was introduced in UTME, most schools were designated as exam centers. This was a tricky development as it paved the way for fraudulent exam centers, also known as “Miracle Centers”. Bad actors manipulated the system to create poorly invigilated exam centers where all forms of exam malpractice took place.
The introduction of CBT to UTME exams followed the introduction of accredited CBT centers with tight monitoring to mitigate fraud and exam malpractice. The computerisation of UTME exams and the introduction of CBT have reduced the menace of miracle centers and exam malpractice.
JAMB/UTME Exam Format in 2026
JAMB changed its exam format from a written test to CBT exams. The format of the exams has not really changed over the years. In 2026. Every candidate is still tested on exactly four subjects determined by their intended course of study. The four courses are as follows.
Use of English: This is a mandatory test for all candidates, regardless of their discipline. It consists of 60 questions, including comprehension, grammar, and questions from a Jamb-recommended novel.
Three Elective Courses: The candidate is expected to choose three courses aligned with their discipline. Science or Medicine Candidates pick Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, while Art students or Law Students choose Government, Literature, and CRS/IRS. Each of these questions consists of 40 questions, and it’s the only differentiator in the UTME exams across disciplines.
Time Format: The total duration for the exams is 2 hours (120 Minutes) to answer all 180 questions. The CBT format has eased the time pressure compared to the written test, when students had to do a lot of ticking.
4 Session Batches: Due to the millions of candidates taking exams on the same day. JAMB runs its UTME exams in four batches on the same day. The daily schedule is divided into four 2-hour exam bursts.
- 1st Batch: 7:00 AM
- 2nd Batch: 9:00 AM
- 3rd Batch: 12:00 PM
- 4th Batch: 3:00 PM
MCQ Format: All Questions are Multiple-Choice, giving candidates options to choose from. This format has not changed in years.
How Do I Check My JAMB Result in 2026
There are two main methods to check your JAMB results in 2026. You can check via SMS or via the official JAMB portal.
Via SMS
This is the quickest and most reliable method. You only need a phone, the correct SIM card used during registration, and at least N50 airtime.
1: Pick up the exact phone and SIM card you used during your JAMB registration. The message must be sent from the same phone number used during registration — a different line will not work.
2: Open your messaging app and compose a new message.
3: Type UTMERESULT in capital letters and send it to 55019 or 66019
4: Wait a few seconds. You will receive a response message showing your score in each UTME subject. Note that N50 will be deducted from your airtime as a service charge.
