Lecturers at the Federal College of Education (FCE) Eha-Amufu, Enugu State, are set to begin a two-week warning strike over unresolved grievances with the school’s management.
The industrial action was initiated by the institution’s chapter of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU). The lecturers’ union kicked off the strike on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. This is over deep unresolved issues with the institution’s provost and management, despite issuing a notice to the management beforehand.
The union warned they were just testing the waters with the two-week strike. They promised to shut down the institution entirely if their demands are not met within the two-week time frame.
The decision to go on industrial action was taken after an emergency congress meeting of the lecturers’ union. A memo titled “Notice Of Two Weeks’ Warning Strike,” obtained by newsmen, revealed its details. It revealed that the Union had previously served the school management with a 7-day ultimatum. This was dated back in May 21, 2026.
The union’s ultimatum was reportedly met with levity, with key issues left unattended by the school’s management and provost.
The Union then served an official strike notice. This was routed through the COEASU South-East Zonal Co-ordinator to the National President in Abuja.
Two-Week Warning Strike Begins
“Arising from Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu Chapter emergency congress held on Tuesday, 2nd June, 2026, the union expressed deep disappointment that the Provost and her management refused to resolve the festering issues as contained in the 7-day ultimatum written and served to the Provost on Thursday, May 21, 2026.” The notice reads in part.
“Having duly exhausted all the procedures as prescribed in the Labour Act relating to industrial actions, the congress hereby declares a two (2) week’s warning strike which commences from June 3, 2026,” the statement declared.
“The Union has set up a monitoring team to ensure strict compliance with the directive by all members of our Union as this important industrial struggle is in a bid to express our grievances in unwavering terms,” it added.
The official strike document was jointly signed by Comrade Chidi Nathaniel Agbo (Chairman). Comrade Nwachukwu Simon Amadi (Secretary) of the school’s COEASU chapter also signed the document.
