The former Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, said the northern region will celebrate his presidency should he emerge as the winner of the 2027 presidential elections.
Obi disclosed this on the Channels TV Sunday Politics programme, where he addressed key issues pertaining to his candidacy for the highest office in the land, amidst a host of other issues. The ex-Anambra governor said the biggest treasure the nation is endowed with is the 19 northern states of the federation, but regrettably, the potential of the region is underutilised due to insecurity.
“We have voted for incompetence, we’ve voted for tribe, (and) we’ve voted for religion; let’s vote for competence.
“I want them to trust me. The biggest asset of this country is in the north, the uncultivated lands in the north. The criminality we face in the north today, I will deal with it.
“If I am president, the North will celebrate me. I have an idea of the problem.” Obi Said.
The former Labour Party flagbearer knocked President Tinubu for running an insensitive administration distant from the plight of the ordinary Nigerian. He criticised the president for going on Christmas vacation in Lagos in 2024 instead of visiting Ibadan to commiserate with the families of school children who died in a stampede.

Obi earlier criticised President Tinubu for visiting St Lucia on a mini vacation when the nation was reeling from various ordeals ranging from insecurity to poor economy.
Obi is a key member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition involving other political heavyweights. He recently declared his intention to run for office in 2027 and use only one term if he wins. Mr Peter Obi was the main political opposition to the Tinubu candidacy in 2023, despite finishing third.
