The Rise Up Naija Movement (RUN), a citizen-powered movement by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is on the verge of organizing a nationwide civic mobilization of all Nigerians towards a better country through citizen participation, accountability, and patriotic activism.
The RUN movement launched by the ADC yesterday is expected to mobilize votes for the party by appealing to the urgent need for active citizenship and gunning for a better Nigeria that works for everybody.
Speaking at the movement’s unveiling at the ADC headquarters in Abuja, the National Coordinator of RUN, Dr. Aliyu Audu, stated that there is no room for passengers in the new movement.
” RUN is not designed as a movement of spectators. It is a movement for participants, a movement for young Nigerians, Community leaders, and every citizen who believes that competence, accountability, inclusion, and patriotism must define the future of this country,” Audu said.
Former National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Chief Ralph Nwosu, called on Young Nigerians to get involved in politics. He cites the ADC’s long list of successes by young people as a reference point.
The ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, emphasized the need to prevent the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from retaining power in 2027. He stressed that this can be achieved by improved participation of young Nigerians in the country’s political landscape.
” I have no doubt in my mind that the only thing holding APC together today is power. When you take political power out of the APC, you don’t have a political party,” Abdullahi explained.
The RUN Movement is banking on Nigeria’s young population and enthusiastic veterans. Both groups will make up the backbone of its National structure.
One Million Man March
As part of its awareness campaign, RUN said it would stage a One Million Man March across 25 cities. The march will run under the theme ” Reawakening Citizenship, Restoring Hope.” The march will also sweep across Nigerian cities, raising awareness. It will also call Nigerians to action towards a country that works for everybody.
The RUN movement is also Unity-focused. It has a quest to unite Nigerians across ethnic, political, and Religious lines, gearing them towards one goal. A better Nigeria.
Aside from the new RUN movement unveiling. The ADC National Publicity Secretary shared insights into the party’s new vision and its aims.
Abdullahi explained that the ADC is repositioning itself as a platform driven by ideas, long-term national planning, and egalitarian governance. In the long run, the event took on a nationalistic tone. Speakers referenced Nigerian founding fathers and the need to rejuvenate their ideals in nation-building.
Political analysts believe the RUN movement by the ADC is its attempt to recreate the youthful vigor of the Obidient Movement, built around its former party man, Peter Obi.
