The Accord Party has declared that it will support Abia State Governor Alex Otti and work with the Labour Party to ensure his re-election.
The party also announced that it will present any candidate for the Abia State governorship election in 2027.
The decision was made known on Wednesday during a visit by the National Chairman of the Accord Party, Professor Christopher Imumolen, and the party’s National Secretary, Mukhtar Abdullah Djungo, to Governor Otti at his hometown in Nvosi, located in Isialangwa South Local Government Area.
Speaking during the visit, Professor Imumolen said the governor’s work in Abia State convinced the national leadership of the party to stand behind him for another term in office.
He explained that opposition parties should not focus only on attacking governments but should also admit when an administration is delivering results for the people.
The party’s National Secretary, Mukhtar Abdullah Djungo, also confirmed that the Accord Party would stay out of the 2027 governorship contest in Abia State.
He added that the National Working Committee had instructed the state chapter of the party to cooperate with the Labour Party for the progress of the state.
According to him, the party believes the current administration should continue because of the work being done across the state.
In his response, Governor Alex Otti thanked the national leadership of the Accord Party for supporting his administration. He also assured them that his government would continue to work with groups and individuals who are interested in the development and security of Abia State.
The governor added that politics should mainly focus on improving the lives of citizens and protecting the welfare of the people.
“The whole essence of politics is about the welfare of our people and security of our people,” Governor Otti said.
