Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, will mark his third year in office with the commissioning of key projects across the state.
In a statement signed by the Chief of Staff to the Abia State Governor, Caleb Ajagba, the government said it will not hold any lavish ceremony, but will instead use the occasion to showcase the projects it has completed.
The activities will take place across the three senatorial zones of Abia State and will include the unveiling of completed works in water, power, energy, and governance reforms, alongside the flag-off of new projects.
Among the major projects lined up is Abia’s participation in the $700 million Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (SURWASH) programme supported by the World Bank, which will boost water infrastructure across the state.
According to the statement, the SURWASH initiative will play a critical role in rehabilitating water infrastructure, particularly in Ubakala and Ariaria, with plans to integrate water schemes for expanded access to pipe-borne water across the state.
Contractors are already mobilized to sites, signaling steady progress toward restoring a reliable water supply to Abia communities. The Water supply initiative by the Otti administration follows the long list of initiatives by his administration in various areas.
Key areas of reforms include electricity, business, urban development and road infrastructure. The roads have earned him the most accolades as Abia state long before his arrival was quite famous for bad roads disrupting the free flow of commercial activities.
Alex Otti, the banker turned lawyer is up against the All Progressives Congress (APC) Machinery in his state as he guns for reelection in 2027. He will be banking on his organic support and growing political base to edge out the threat of the ruling party and its penchant to win elections using raw power from the top.
