African payment giant Flutterwave is close to establishing a regional hub in Anambra State, according to its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Olugbenga Agboola.
Speaking on Thursday at a tech gathering in the state, organised by Mr Stanley Uzochukwu, CEO of Stanel Group and owner of Delborough Hotel, the CEO revealed plans to expand into the southeast market, operating from a new hub in Anambra state.
“We want Anambra to be our hub for the entire South East of Nigeria. We want to put a system here, our fees here, our infrastructure here, and our POS in every small business and large firm in Anambra State.” Agboola said
Speaking further, the fintech CEO explained that the company’s goal is to become the consumer choice in the eastern region. Flutterwave is working towards this reality by floating a soon-to-launch impact program that benefits the state’s tech ecosystem. He explained that the goal of the program is to develop world-class talent capable of building global platforms from Anambra State.
“We’ve built tech that has gone global. It can be done again, and with our platform being available now, with the banking license that we just got, we can make it easy for the new entrepreneurs all over Nigeria to even grow faster and quicker via our platform.” Agboola said.
The Flutterwave founder stated that he is quite aware that a lot of money flows through Anambra state. Thus, he is bringing Flutterwave to add some structure to the flow of finance in the state.
Flutterwave will be bringing its POS business to Anambra, loans and financial services for small and medium-sized businesses. This adds value to the business space in the state.
The Central Bank of Nigeria recently granted Flutterwave a National microfinance banking license. This happened few months after its competitors, Opay and Moneipoint, were upgraded.
Flutterwave remains part of the Big Three Fintech companies at the Unicorn level. Its move to expand into the Southeast reflects a drive to conquer new regions. The projected goal here is also to increase its share of Nigeria’s financial services market.
