The Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC) will hold a two-day public consultation on draft regulations starting from today, March 31, at the Archbishop CJ Patterson Auditorium in All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha.
The two-day public engagement program, starting on March 31 and ending on April 1st focuses on Customer Protection Regulation and Licensing and Investment Regulations, with the regulatory body holding a public consultation on both topics.
The Time for the event is 10,00 Am prompt, and the general public is invited to participate in the public consultation. The Two-day Program from ASERC signals a shift in the modus operandi of regulatory bodies in the state, opting for more public engagement in keeping with the times.

ASERC is a government body tasked with regulating the state’s electricity sector and overseeing the activities of Discos and their Subsidiaries. Every state in the eastern region has an equivalent of this body, with the Enugu state Chapter (EERC) the most prominent in terms of oversight functions and impact on the state’s electricity sector.
Last Year, the Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC) issued an order slashing the electricity tariff for Band A customers in Enugu state from N209/kWh to N160/kWh.
The commission based its new directive on the grounds that the Federal Government was subsidising the cost of power generation, and there was no need to bill customers up to N209/kWh.
Both ASERC and EERC are tasked with regulating the power sector in their respective states, protecting consumers from predatory practices, and serving as the government’s hand in this sector.
