This InfoEast article looks at how to transfer Airtime from MTN to Mtn. The art of transferring Airtime comes in handy when a loved one or colleague runs out of airtime and can’t recharge their line. A friend or colleague with spare airtime can transfer it to the person, saving them the stress.
It also works when a parent or family friend transfers airtime to younger siblings who need it, instead of going through the stress of buying a new airtime card for them. The transfer of Airtime also powers a popular business model in which vendors sell airtime without purchasing physical recharge cards from the service provider.
Here, a prospective customer visits an airtime vendor and pays cash or transfers funds. In return, the airtime vendor transfers airtime to the customer’s phone number using mechanisms we will share in this article.
The art of transferring airtime is officially known as Peer-to-Peer (P2P) airtime transfer.
How many Networks Support P2P Airtime Transfer
In Nigeria, four primary telecommunications providers support peer-to-peer (P2P) airtime transfer. They include MTN, Airtel, 9mobile, and Glo. While these services allow you to share credit with friends and family, they only work within the same network (e.g., MTN to MTN).
Directly transferring airtime from one network to another (e.g., MTN to Airtel) via USSD is not supported by any provider.
| Network | Service name | USSD Code | Default Pin |
| MTN | Mtn Share | *321# | 0000 |
| Airtel | Airtel (Me 2 u ) | *321# or *432# | 1234(0000) |
| Glo | Glo easy share | *131# | 00000 |
| 9mobile | 9mobile Airtime transfer | *223# | 0000 |

How to transfer Airtime from MTN to MTN
To transfer airtime from MTN to MTN, you must first change the default PIN (0000) to a 4-digit personalized PIN for security.
- To do this Dial *321*0000*NewPIN*NewPIN# to update it.
Once your PIN is set, use the quick USSD code:
- *321*RecipientNumber*Amount*PIN#
- (Example: *321*08031234567*500*1234#)
Via SMS
You can also text Transfer [Number] [Amount] [PIN] to 321.
You will receive a prompt to reply “YES” to confirm. You can share between ₦50 and ₦5,000 per transaction, with a daily limit of ₦100,000.
Note that bonus-heavy plans like BetaTalk do not support sharing, and due to NCC’s harmonisation efforts, the code *321# is now widely adopted by all networks.
