Award-winning rapper Chibuzor Azubuike, aka Phyno, is set to perform at the Enviable Group Football Tournament Grand Finale in Abakaliki.
Phyno will grace the grand finale of the community football competition organised by Transport and Logistics Company, Enviable Group. The event is slated for Sunday, the 4th of January at the Abakaliki Township Stadium.
The rapper confirmed his proposed appearance in a short video clip, urging his fans to show up and make the occasion memorable. The music event comes a day after Jeriq performed in the same venue in the state.
The two music concerts by two of Ebonyi’s leading eastern rappers mark the end of a packed festive season in the eastern region. The cities of Enugu, Awka, Owerri, Abakaliki, and Onitsha hosted music concerts by indigenous artists and national pop stars.
Enugu leads the way with the most shows, starting from a grand music concert by Davido, one of Nigeria’s finest. Other shows, like the rave party and the unblocked party, were mere music events with no headline artists.
The eastern region of Nigeria is experiencing an uptick in its entertainment scene, powered by the coming-of-age of a new generation of home-bred artists. These artsist do their thing in the local Igbo language, connecting directly with the masses and building strong fan bases.
Abakaliki wasn’t famous for hosting shows until now. The majority of the showbiz activity was in Enugu and Awka, with Owerri and Aba left out. The diversification of music events across the eastern region is a welcome development and reflects the emerging market in the area.
