Nigerian Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi has called on Ndigbo to forget the call for Biafra and focus on new and emerging opportunities for the region under the Bola Tinubu administration.
Speaking to newsmen yesterday, Umahi made the statement while inspecting ongoing federal government projects in Enugu state, including a highway and other construction works. The works minister maintained that the Tinubu adminstration means well for the South East while calling on Ndigbo to embrace the adminstration and drop sentiments.
” We do not have any reasons again to advocate for Biafra. He who has started this great and beautiful thing will continue it. Even those who dont want us to take our rightful position. God has opened the time. This is our time, and this is the time God has sent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to integrate our people,” says Umahi
The Minister stated that in the area of appointments, the South East is also favoured, citing his position as the Minister of Works as one of such benevolence from the Tinubu administration to the South East region.
He maintained that the region is benefiting from the regime and should show appreciation and drop narrow sentiments for brilliant politicking.
Engr David Umahi, the former governor of Ebonyi state, was among the pioneers of the defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) by igbo leaders in the country. He engineered the coming to power of his successor, Barrister Francis Nwifuru, and still wields significant influence in the state.
Umahi, alongside Senator Hope Uzodimma of Imo state, Prof Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra, and Peter Mbah of Enugu, are allegedly vice presidential candidates hopefuls in the forthcoming elections as the eastern region continues its battle for central power in Aso Rock.
Other notable APC figures in the eastern region include the current deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who is leading an opposition against the current Abia state governor ahead of the 2027 general elections.
