Anambra State was ranked first on the National Fiscal Performance Ranking, edging out mega states like Lagos, Kano, and Ogun State, according to an extensive report by BudgIT Research.

The Southeastern state ranked first on the index, trailed by Lagos, Kwara, Abia, and Edo state. Notable omissions on the list were Abuja, the federal capital, and Ogun state, ranking a distant ninth on the list.

Reacting to the development, Anambra’s Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, described the news as an indicator of Anambra’s financial health.

” The report highlights Anambra’s strong financial management, effective budget implementation, and transparency in public spending. This achievement underscores Governor Soludo’s commitment to accountability, economic growth, and sustainable governance, a reflection of the “Solution Agenda” at work.” Mefor said.

Southeastern states performed fairly on the index, with Anambra topping the list and Abia coming in 4th on the list. Enugu state came in at the 13th position on the index, while Ebonyi state finished 15th. Imo state was the last southeastern state on the list, finishing 29th on the index.

Anambra State under Soludo is a bag of mixed feelings, with stellar performances in some sectors and underperformance in others. The adminstration has been chided for delivering shoddy jobs, not exactly at par with global standards.

Despite the criticisms, the Soludo adminstration has initiated a lot of rural road projects, making inroads in new sectors like leisure and entertainment.

The National Fiscal Performance Index by BudIT Research reveals strong financial management, which is not surprising given that Anambra’s governor, Soludo, is a professor of economics.
